Definition of Embodiment

We discuss how these patients might be able to map “two” complex patterns onto one image by using a compensatory strategy they have developed over time to cope with these deficits.

Why is Embodiment so important?
Embodied cognition is the idea that what we experience and how our senses perceive the world shapes our cognition. We learn how to think by doing; when we do something, it becomes part of us and contributes to our understanding of the world. So, for example, when you watch a movie about flying, or drive a car, or walk down a street, those are all activities that you can use to either add depth to your understanding of movement through space (useful in flight simulations), or improve your driving skills (e.g. tests while taking lessons). One of the key concepts in psychotherapy is that the body and mind are deeply interconnected.
When we lose contact with our bodies, we lose contact with our physical needs and desires.
We can also be out of touch with how others behave or feel.
People motivated to change often have a good head start in therapy because they want something they’re not getting.
In therapy, this means trying to attune to feelings and finding ways to help us be more aware of what’s happening in our bodies.
This helps us understand how experiences in and outside of therapy can be expressed in the body.
We can never ignore how our physical bodies affect our experience of living. We experience the world through Embodiment, and it will always be a part of our lives. This is true for each of us, particularly for designers, whose work is often influenced by the very bodies they inhabit. The experiences we gain from interacting with our bodies in physical space should inform everything we do in digital space, no matter how seemingly abstract.
